The Amityville Horror by Jay Anson

The Night the DeFeos Died by Ric Osuna

Info

On the night of November 13, 1974, Ron DeFeo Jr went room to room in the house at 112 Ocean Avenue in Amityville, New York. He shot and killed all six members of his family. In November of 1975, he was convicted all killings and is currently serving a life sentence at the Sullivan Correctional Facility in Fallsburg, New York (also home to Son of Sam killer, David Berkowitz).

In December of 1975, a little over a year after the murders, the home on Ocean Avenue was purchased by George and Kathy Lutz. They would live in the house for a month until they allegedly fled the home, under attack by malicious spirits. Everyone in the house, the children included, reported some kind of vicious attack by unseen forces after hearing about the house’s reputation from the family friend. They were also more than happy to discuss their experiences with author, Jay Anson, who made a gigantic sum of money from the book and subsequent film adaptations. Anson would later be on record admitting that the story was terrifically exaggerated and the involvement of “demonologists” Ed and Lorraine Warren really didn’t help matters. Subsequent occupants of the house at 112 Ocean Avenue would later report absolutely nothing unusual about the house.

The Amityville Horror haunting is widely regarded as a hoax.
