The Zebra Murders: A Season of Killing, Racial Madness, and Civil Rights by Prentice Earl Sanders and Bennett Cohen

Info

There’s probably a very interesting social inventory for what makes serial murder something that is unique to the white race. I mean, sure there are Japanese serial killers in Japan and Mexican serial killers in Mexico but in the context of American crime, serial murder is not unique to but definitely committed in the highest volume by white people. So it’s tremendously interesting when a serial killer in America is identified as a black man or woman. Is the under-reporting of serial murders committed by African American killers informed by racism in the sense that white journalists are unconcerned with black crime or are they afraid to report on it out of fear of being seen as racist. It’s a conundrum, man. Female serial killers also fall under the under reported umbrella.

This pair of episodes encapsulates the incredibly fascinating and disturbing crimes of The Cleveland Strangler, The Grim Sleeper, The Beltway Snipers, and The Zebra Murders. Any of these crimes warrant their own three part series from the podcast. So here’s hoping somewhere in the near future we get an expansion because some of the cases, like The Zebra Murders are scary as fuck.
