Ruthless by Ron Miscavige

David Miscavige is the new L. Ron Hubbard in the sense that he’s in charge of the current Church of Scientology but other than that they have nothing in common. Well, I suppose that’s not true. Both are liars and also psychopaths, so I guess they have that going for them. But for all his bloviating and cruelty, Hubbard never seemed to any qualities about his personality that suggested that he, personally, was capable of murdering someone. Can’t say that about Miscavige! Hubbard had will. Miscavige has vision.

Yes, we’re back in Scientology land because everyone at Last Podcast on the Left can’t get enough of Henry’s Hubbard impression. But this series instead focuses on Miscavige and the direction that the cult took in the days following Hubbard’s death and none of it is very funny since Scientology under Miscavige’s direction took on a particularly sinister and violent new direction. He also very likely murdered his own wife and will likely never answer for the crime because of the layers upon layers of impenetrable church protection that he has surrounded himself with. The suspected motive for the crime? Shelly Miscavige filled some job vacancies within the church without his permission.

The man is a monster but I suppose that without him we wouldn’t have all those wild Tom Cruise memes from a ways back. Miscavige brought in Cruise, personally, in what appears to be a seriously dark and nerdy ploy to make the actor his best friend. The 90’s wave of celebrity Scientologists and presence of Scientology propaganda on film sets of the time have everything to do with this unfortunate period.
