On the Farm: Robert William Pickton and the Tragic Story of Vancouver’s Missing Women by Stevie Cameron

Info

Robert Pickton, like Ed Gein, was like something out of a killer redneck horror movie. Currently in prison for the rest of his stank-ass life, Pickton was convicted of the murder of 6 known women from around Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside district. For all we know, he may be responsible for as many as 20 more murders, or maybe even 49. It honestly depends on the day and how Pickton is feeling at the time.

Pickton and his brothers eventually took over the family pig farm and slaughterhouse, eventually registering it as a non-profit event center called The Piggy Palace Good Times Society and hosted parties and raves there, associating with local criminal elements, including but not limited to The Hell’s Angel’s motorcycle club. Homicide investigators eventually made the connection that local sex workers that went out there for parties, often didn’t come back.

The investigation eventually learned that Pickton had been murdering the women, butchering their bodies in the slaughterhouse facility and feeding their remains to the pigs. After his arrest, investigators turned up a great deal of unprocessed remains. Conclusively proves to have committed so many murders, Canadian authorities eventually stopped the criminal proceedings and chose not to prosecute 20 cases in addition to the 6 that had been finished due to the amount of time it would require.
